Comparative Performance of DFIG and PMSG Wind Turbines during Transient State in Weak and Strong Grid Conditions Considering Series Dynamic Braking Resistor

The recently stipulated grid codes require wind generators to re-initiate normal power production after voltage sag. This paper presents a comparative performance of two commonly employed variable speed turbines in today’s electricity market, the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) and permanent magnet synchronous (PMSG) turbines. evaluation both was performed for weak, strong grids, considering same machine ratings Because critical situations during faulty conditions weak an analysis done use effective series dynamic braking resistor (SDBR) as signal switching SDBR transient state. Additionally, overvoltage protection system considered using DC chopper DC-link excitation circuitry Furthermore, combination over-voltage scheme (OVPS) at condition order improve keep operation converters within their permissible limits. DFIG PMSG grids were further investigated, 75% 50% effectively sized OVPS. It observed that, even with reduction or OVPS, is still satisfactory conditions. Therefore, it recommended OVPS DFIG- PMSG-based achieve superior fault ride through performance, especially grids. evaluated computer design electromagnetic including (PSCAD/EMTDC) platform.
